The 29th of May, 2014 proved to be busy and challenging for Mitr with the day long activity marathon that was planned for the children of construction workers, as part of the Vascon Murthy Foundation’s Annual Camp.
50 children gathered at the Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Smarak, at Koregaon Park at 9:30 in the morning, eager to know what was in store for them.
The activities began with an ice breaker that set the mood for the rest of the day. Thereafter, the children enthusiastically participated in sessions that included making dogs, houses and flowers using paper folding techniques, quilling cards, crystal flowers and little pots on a mechanized potter’s wheel. After a quick lunch break, the children enjoyed creating ‘bandhini’ handkerchiefs and ice cream stick crafts.
Once done with the arts and crafts sessions, it was time to shake a leg. The children had a blast, learning to dance to the tune of Yo Yo Singh’s foot tapping numbers from dance professionals – Arun and Sonali of Flawless Dance Academy. The day ended on a happy note with five children being shortlisted for an audition for a dance competition that will be held in June.
The volunteers who made this event a memorable one included Rian Khorana, Summer Jacobs, Juhi Sachdev, Tanuj Agarwal, Anshveer Sahani, Samruddhi Lunkad, Arbaaz Ali Jeena, Raj Kadam and Saakshi Patil who came in for the morning session while Sanil Pande, Hussain Harianawala, Prithviraj Jadhav, Shyna Anand, Shaurya Jaisinghani, Pranjal Khairnar, Wasif Husain, Fatema Saif, Karan Madan and Krishna Mirpuri ensured that the post lunch session was a huge success. Anukriti Krishna and Simran Sehgal were present throughout the event.
