On the 13th of December 2014, Mitr’s Christmas celebrations began with a Christmas craft session, games and snacks for 67 children living in the slums of Yerwada at the premises of the Indian Sponsorship Committee.
The reason for the celebration was first explained to the children. They were also asked to share what they knew about Christmas. Thereafter, the volunteers helped the children make Santa faces and Christmas trees using coloured paper – an activity the children loved.
Santa’s visit and the distribution of gifts to each child added sparkle to the event. The children also enjoyed the snacks that were served. It was amazing to see the look on their faces when they saw the delicious cupcakes sponsored by Namrata Kripalani, the owner of Forennte Patisserie. What was more amazing is that even though the cupcakes were really tempting, most of the children asked us to close the boxes again so that they could carry them home to share with their families. They taught us the true meaning of sharing and caring through this simple gesture.
The happiness on the faces of the children definitely made each of us realize that there is no better way to prepare for Christmas than by spreading joy to others. We truly appreciate the support we receive that helps us bring smiles on the faces of so many children. A special thank you to Namrata Kripalani for providing absolutely mouth watering cupcakes that add that a special touch to our events!
